A private bus travelling from Ahmedabad to Madhya Pradesh overturned after hitting a divider near Kota’s Nayagaon overbridge, leaving three dead and around 20 injured
Kota: A tragic road accident in Rajasthan’s Kota claimed three lives and left nearly 20 passengers injured after a private bus overturned shortly after midnight. Police said the bus was travelling from Ahmedabad to Madhya Pradesh when it struck a divider and lost control.
The crash occurred near the Nayagaon overbridge under the jurisdiction of the RK Puram police station.
How the Accident Happened
According to police, the bus rammed into the road divider and overturned with force. During the impact, the front windshield shattered.
Three passengers who were reportedly travelling in the cabin area were thrown out onto the road after the bus flipped.
In a horrifying sequence, officials said the victims were then run over by a speeding truck passing through the route.
Rescue Operation Launched at Midnight
Police said information about the accident was received around 12:30 am, following which senior officials rushed to the scene.
Among those who reached the site were:
- Kota City SP Tejaswini Gautam
- Fire Officer Rakesh Vyas
- Local police and rescue teams
Emergency responders began rescue efforts, evacuated injured passengers and cleared the roadway.
“Immediate rescue action was taken after the alert, and the injured were shifted for treatment,” officials said.
Nearly 20 Injured
Around 20 passengers sustained injuries in the crash. Several were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The exact condition of some injured passengers was being assessed.
Authorities are also working to identify all passengers and inform their families.
Probe Underway
Police have begun investigating whether overspeeding, driver fatigue, mechanical failure or poor visibility contributed to the accident.
The bus operator’s documents, driver records and vehicle fitness details are expected to be examined.
