NICO to Bring Global Experts, Journalists and Students Together in Mangaluru to Debate Media Responsibility Amid Rising Global Tensions

Mangaluru: The Nitte Institute of Communication, a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), is set to host a two-day international Media Conclave 2026 on April 28 and 29 at the University Auditorium, Paneer Campus in Mangaluru. The event will focus on the critical theme, “From Propaganda to Peace: Rethinking Media Responsibility in Global Conflicts.”

The conclave aims to bring together leading journalists, academicians, and students to examine the evolving role of media in an increasingly volatile global landscape, where misinformation and narrative control are shaping public discourse.

Prominent Speakers to Lead Discourse
The event will be inaugurated by Dhanya Rajendran, Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of The News Minute, who will attend as the Chief Guest. M. S. Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor of Nitte University, will be the Guest of Honour.

The keynote address will be delivered by Nikhil Moro, Associate Professor and former Director of the A. Q. Miller School of Media and Communication at Kansas State University.

Two-Day Agenda Packed with Panels, Workshops, and Cultural Events
The conclave features a comprehensive schedule combining academic discussions and creative engagement:

  1. Day 1 (April 28): The programme includes the inauguration, keynote address, two panel discussions, a poster presentation, and a cultural programme from 5:30 PM.
  2. Day 2 (April 29): Activities include a third panel discussion, a hands-on workshop, and the valedictory ceremony, followed by an awards presentation.

Workshop to Address Fake News and Deepfake Threats
A key highlight is a specialised workshop titled “Understanding Misinformation, Deepfakes and Fake News in Conflict Reporting”, aimed at working journalists from the Dakshina Kannada district. The session will be conducted by Data Leads Academy under its AI initiative ADiRA, and led by independent journalist S Kumar.

Valedictory Ceremony and Media Excellence Award
The conclave will conclude on April 29 at 3 PM with a valedictory ceremony attended by Suma Ballal as Chief Guest, along with Stanley Carvalho as Guest of Honour.

On the occasion, a Media Excellence Award for Lifetime Achievement will be conferred on senior Mangaluru journalist Chidambara Baikampady for his contributions to the field of journalism.
