A man missing for decades reunites with his family in Bijnor, triggering an emotional and complex family situation after his wife’s remarriage
Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: In a startling turn of events, a man who went missing 25 years ago has suddenly returned home, leaving his family in shock and emotional turmoil in Bijnor. The unexpected comeback has also created a complex situation, as his wife remarried his younger brother years ago.
The missing man, identified as Hansa Singh, a native of Punjab, was recently found wandering in a distressed condition at a market in Nahtaur. Locals spotted him in torn clothes with a long beard and alerted the police, who took him into custody for questioning.
Identity Confirmed After Emotional Reunion
During interrogation, Hansa Singh revealed details about his identity and native village in Kapurthala district. Police coordinated with Punjab authorities, and within 72 hours, his brother and the village head arrived in Bijnor.
Initially, even his own brother struggled to recognise him. However, when Hansa began recalling childhood memories and family details, the emotional truth unfolded, bringing tears to the eyes of his relatives.
“When he started naming people and recalling past incidents, we realised it was truly him,” a family member said.
Wife Remarried After Years of Waiting
Hansa Singh had gone missing just two years after his marriage. His family searched for him for nearly three years before assuming he was dead. Following this, his wife, Vimala Devi, was remarried to his younger brother, Sukh Singh, in accordance with family decisions.
For the past 22 years, Vimala has been living with her second husband and has built a new life, including three children and a married daughter.

While Hansa Singh’s return has brought immense joy, it has also created a deeply complicated family scenario. The situation raises questions about relationships, legal standing, and emotional bonds formed over decades.
Man Returns to Punjab With Family
After the reunion, Hansa Singh has now returned to Punjab with his family members. Authorities have confirmed his identity and closed the missing person case.
