Kalaburagi: In a disturbing incident, a theft at a temple in Kalaburagi has sparked concern after a thief broke into the sanctum and fled with gold and silver ornaments, with the entire act caught on CCTV cameras.

The incident took place at the Mahalaxmi Temple located in the Kuvempu Nagar area of the city.

Break-In at Sanctum Sanctorum
According to police, the accused used an iron rod to break open the temple lock and gain entry into the inner sanctum (Garbhagudi in Kannada), where the deity is placed.

Once inside, the thief targeted the ornaments adorning the idol.

Gold and Silver Ornaments Stolen
  1. Around 9 grams of gold Chain from the deity’s neck
  2. Approximately 100 grams of silver mask placed on the idol
The accused managed to escape immediately after the theft.

CCTV Footage Key Evidence
The entire act was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the temple, providing crucial leads for the investigation.

Police are currently analysing the footage to identify and track down the suspect.

Case Registered, Hunt On
A case has been registered at the Station Bazar Police Station, and a search operation is underway to nab the accused.
“We are examining CCTV visuals and gathering evidence to identify the culprit at the earliest,” police officials stated.
Rising Concern Over Temple Security
The incident has raised questions about security arrangements at religious places, especially during night hours when such thefts are more likely to occur.

Authorities are expected to step up surveillance and preventive measures to avoid similar incidents.
