Bengaluru: Police in Electronic City have arrested a man accused of deceiving and blackmailing a teacher through Instagram after allegedly posing as her former classmate online.
The case has raised renewed concerns about impersonation scams, emotional manipulation, and digital extortion through social media platforms.
How the Alleged Trap Began
According to reports, the accused first contacted the woman on Instagram and introduced himself as her classmate. He then allegedly tried to gain sympathy by claiming to be seriously ill and made inappropriate requests.
Police say the communication later escalated into coercion and threats.
Blackmail Allegations Surface
Reports state that after obtaining private content, the accused allegedly demanded money and insisted on meeting in person, threatening to leak the material publicly if his demands were not met.
The woman then reportedly informed police and cooperated in a plan to help apprehend the suspect.
Online impersonation and emotional pressure are common tactics used in digital extortion cases.
Arrest in Bengaluru
Police said the accused travelled from Puttaparthi to Bengaluru after being asked to meet. Officers from Electronic City Police then detained him.
Reports also state the accused attempted self-injury during the arrest process before being taken into custody. Authorities have not publicly released further medical details.
