From conflict zones to energy security, India leverages strategic ties with Azerbaijan and Armenia to assist in evacuations from Iran, showcasing powerful foreign policy outreach
New Delhi: In a remarkable display of strategic diplomacy, India is scripting a new narrative on the global stage as even bitter rivals Azerbaijan and Armenia have come forward to assist New Delhi in evacuating its citizens from crisis-hit Iran. The development underscores India’s growing geopolitical influence and balanced foreign policy amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
India expressed formal gratitude to both nations, highlighting how diplomatic bridges built over time are yielding results during crises.
“Thank you to Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the Government of Armenia for helping bring Indian fishermen from Iran,” said S. Jaishankar in a public message.
“204 Indian citizens have exited Iran via Azerbaijan and are being brought back safely,” stated Randhir Jaiswal during a media briefing.
This coordinated effort reflects India’s multi-channel diplomatic engagement in ensuring the safety of its citizens abroad.
Additionally, Iran has kept the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz accessible, allowing multiple Indian vessels to pass through even during heightened tensions.
As geopolitical uncertainties deepen, India’s approach reflects a carefully calibrated strategy that prioritises citizen safety, economic stability, and international cooperation, setting it apart in an increasingly polarised world.
