Shocking Domestic Violence Case in Khanapura Taluk as Dispute Over Clothing Turns Brutal, Victim Battles for Life in Goa Hospital
Belagavi: In a shocking case of domestic violence that has sent shockwaves across Karnataka, a man allegedly set his wife on fire in Nandagad village of Khanapura taluk in Belagavi district, reportedly enraged over her wearing a nightie instead of a saree at home. The victim has sustained critical burn injuries covering nearly 80 per cent of her body and is currently undergoing treatment in a Goa hospital.
According to initial reports, the accused, identified as Krishnaji Patil, frequently argued with his wife, Manjula Patil, over her choice of clothing, particularly her preference for wearing a nightie or gown instead of a saree within the house. What began as recurring domestic disputes eventually escalated into a brutal act of violence.
On the day of the incident, a heated argument reportedly broke out between the couple over the same issue. In a fit of rage, Krishnaji allegedly poured fuel on Manjula and set her ablaze, leaving her critically injured.
“I got into a fight because I wasn't wearing a saree,” the victim reportedly stated, highlighting the shocking trigger behind the assault.
Medical sources indicate that her condition remains extremely serious, with doctors closely monitoring her progress.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections and initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. Officials are also recording statements from witnesses and gathering further evidence.
As the investigation continues, the case has sparked outrage among locals and civil society, with demands for strict action against the accused and justice for the victim.
