Rising temperatures trigger strict time limits for Anjaneya darshan at Anjanadri Betta, devotees barred from climbing between 11 AM and 4 PM amid health emergencies
Koppal: In a decisive move driven by extreme summer heat conditions, the district administration has imposed strict time restrictions on devotees visiting Anjanadri Betta, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman (Anjaneya). The order comes amid rising cases of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and even fatalities, turning what is usually a spiritual journey into a potential health risk.
With temperatures soaring across the Kalyana Karnataka region, the situation at Anjanadri has worsened significantly. Authorities have now mandated that devotees can only climb the hill before 11 AM and after 4 PM, effectively banning entry during peak afternoon hours.
“The safety of devotees is our top priority. The restriction is necessary to avoid further health emergencies,” the district administration emphasised.
This marks a major shift from earlier, when devotees had unrestricted access throughout the day. The hill gates will now close at 11 AM and reopen only at 4 PM, making it mandatory for visitors to plan their pilgrimage accordingly.
However, with the intensifying heatwave, the climb has become increasingly dangerous. Reports indicate that several devotees have fainted due to dehydration and exhaustion, while some tragic cases of heart attacks have also been recorded on the steps.
“The sun is unbearable, and climbing becomes extremely difficult. This decision will save lives,” a devotee remarked.
At the same time, there is a growing demand for enhanced medical preparedness on the hill. Visitors have urged authorities to deploy health department personnel and emergency response teams to handle any critical situations swiftly.
