A proud father from Ujjain travelled to Kalaburagi to witness his son receive two gold medals at the university convocation, but a devastating auto-rickshaw accident claimed his life before the ceremony began
Kalaburagi: In a heartbreaking tragedy that has left many in tears, a father who travelled hundreds of kilometres to witness his son’s proudest academic moment died in a road accident on the very day of the convocation ceremony in Kalaburagi.
The deceased has been identified as Shivkumar Sharma (59), a resident of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, who had arrived in Karnataka to see his son receive two gold medals at the convocation ceremony of Central University of Karnataka (CUK).
What was supposed to be a day of celebration for the family turned into an unimaginable moment of grief.
Father Came to Celebrate Son’s Historic Achievement
Shivkumar Sharma’s son, Divyanshu Saxena, is a B.Tech student in the Electronics and Communication department at the Central University of Karnataka.
Divyanshu was selected to receive two gold medals during the university’s 10th Convocation Ceremony, held on April 22.
Filled with pride, Shivkumar Sharma travelled from Ujjain to Kalaburagi specifically to witness the special moment when his son would be honoured on stage.
Auto Rickshaw Overturns, Father Dies on Spot
On Wednesday morning, Shivkumar Sharma was reportedly travelling in an auto-rickshaw toward the university campus near Kadaganchi village in Aland taluk to attend the ceremony.
During the journey, the auto-rickshaw driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.
The impact proved fatal, and Shivkumar Sharma died on the spot. Other passengers travelling in the auto sustained minor injuries.
A journey made with pride ended in tragedy before he could see his son’s shining moment.
Police Register Case
A case has been registered at Narona Police Station, and further investigation into the accident is underway.
Officials are expected to examine the cause of the auto overturning and whether negligence played a role in the fatal crash.
