Deputy CM cites failure in Davanagere bypoll responsibility, urges MLAs to maintain discipline and caution while speaking to the media
Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on Tuesday defended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s decision to remove Naseer Ahmed from the post of political secretary, stating that the move was taken based on inputs from multiple sources in the interest of the party.
Shivakumar was speaking to the media at his residence and KPCC office in Sadashivanagar amid growing political discussion over the development.
“The Chief Minister has taken a decision on Nasir Ahmed after getting information from his own various sources in the interest of the party,” Shivakumar said.
“He was instructed to go to Davanagere South constituency and make the rebel candidate withdraw. He has failed to fulfil this responsibility. I am yet to receive a full report,” he added.
“Discipline is very important in any party. The Chief Minister has taken a decision based on reports from our leaders,” he said.
When asked about possible action against other leaders, including B. Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, Shivakumar said he had no information on further disciplinary steps.
“There is nothing wrong in MLAs asking for ministerial berths. But the party should maintain discipline. I have advised them to be careful while responding to media questions,” he said.
“It is my duty as party president to discuss strategy with MLAs and shape the future. They are reporting developments from Davanagere South and Bagalkot by-elections,” he noted.
