Retired judge celebrates daughter’s return with music and sweets after divorce; powerful message challenges stigma around separation and supports women’s dignity
Meerut: A retired judge welcomed his daughter home with music, dance, and celebrations after her divorce, sending a strong message against societal stigma surrounding separation. The emotional moment unfolded outside the family court and has since drawn widespread attention.
Declaring that “nothing is more important than a daughter’s happiness,” the father refused to treat her return as a matter of shame. Instead, he stood firmly by her decision to end an unhappy marriage, transforming what is often seen as a social setback into a moment of pride and support.
Grand Welcome Outside Court
Outside the Meerut family court, relatives and well-wishers danced, played drums, and distributed sweets, escorting the daughter home in a celebratory procession. The father was seen wearing a black T-shirt printed with the words “I Love My Daughter,” symbolising unconditional support.
“A daughter’s happiness comes before societal expectations,” the gesture conveyed, resonating with many online.
Divorce Finalised After Years of Alleged Abuse
The court officially granted the divorce on April 4. The woman, identified as Praneeta, had married Army Major Gaurav Agnihotri in December 2018. Reports suggest she had been facing mental, emotional, and physical harassment during the marriage.
Even after the birth of their child, the situation reportedly did not improve, ultimately leading her to take the difficult decision to separate.
Family Support Makes the Difference
Unlike many cases where women face isolation, Praneeta received strong backing from her parental home, enabling her to walk out of the troubled relationship with dignity.
