BJP leader expresses confidence in Congress support for Nari Shakti Bill, launches sharp attack on Siddaramaiah and the Karnataka government

Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Wednesday said that the Congress party’s future could be at risk if it opposes the Women’s Reservation Bill, expressing confidence that the opposition will ultimately support the legislation during the special session of Parliament.

Addressing media persons at the BJP state office, Jagannath Bhavan in Malleshwaram, Narayanaswamy said the proposed bill would ensure equal representation for women in lawmaking, aligning with the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

“I am confident that Congress will support the Women’s Reservation Bill. If they raise objections, their political future will be serious,” he said.

‘Nari Shakti Bill Reflects Ambedkar’s Vision’

Narayanaswamy stated that Ambedkar had envisioned equal rights and opportunities for all, particularly emphasizing women’s empowerment. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking forward that vision through the proposed legislation.

He added that earlier governments spoke about women’s empowerment, but lacked intent, whereas the current government has taken concrete steps by introducing the bill in a special Parliament session.

Attack on Karnataka Government Over Ambedkar Jayanti

The BJP leader also criticized the Karnataka government, alleging that Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations lacked sincerity. He claimed that the Chief Minister did not attend the event on time and accused the government of showing “no real respect” towards Ambedkar.

Narayanaswamy further alleged that statements made during the event were misleading and referred to past remarks by senior leaders regarding Ambedkar.

Criticism of Siddaramaiah and Congress Leadership

Targeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he accused him of making contradictory statements and urged him to refrain from making remarks against Prime Minister Modi.

“Congress should not play hypocritical politics for vote bank. They must accept the truth,” he said.

He also alleged that Congress leaders were engaging in political double standards, particularly on issues related to Ambedkar and minority communities.

Claims on Minority Outreach and Governance

Narayanaswamy claimed that minorities have not faced issues under the BJP-led government and alleged that Congress uses fear-based politics to secure support.

He also referred to internal actions within Congress involving minority leaders, suggesting that the party’s approach towards minorities lacks consistency.

Remarks on Youth Protests and Governance

On employment-related protests, he said that youth have the right to demand jobs and criticised any attempts to suppress such movements. He added that courts have rightly intervened in such matters.

Further Political Allegations

The BJP leader also made allegations regarding the use of funds under SCP/TSP schemes, questioned the state government’s development record, and accused Congress leaders of engaging in vote bank politics.

He further criticised senior Congress leaders, including remarks related to internal party dynamics and policy positions.

Leaders Present

Several BJP leaders, including Shyamala Kunder, Vikas Puttur, and spokesperson Anand Gurumurthy, were present during the press interaction.
