Bengaluru: In a proactive move ahead of the monsoon season, the Bengaluru West City Corporation has intensified its preparedness measures, with Commissioner Rajendra K.V. chairing a high-level review meeting with engineering officials.

The meeting focused on ensuring zero lapses during the upcoming rains, with a strong emphasis on preventing waterlogging, improving drainage systems, and enhancing emergency response mechanisms across the city.

Strict Instructions on Monsoon Preparedness

The Commissioner directed all divisional engineers to take immediate precautionary measures, stressing that water stagnation must be avoided at all costs during heavy rainfall.

Officials were instructed to remain vigilant and ensure that all systems are in place before the onset of the monsoon.

Identification of Waterlogging Zones

Engineering teams have been tasked with identifying vulnerable waterlogging points in advance and implementing quick remedial measures to prevent flooding in critical areas.

Drain Cleaning and Sanitation Drive

Priority has been given to desilting and cleaning of stormwater drains (SWDs) and shoulder drains. Comprehensive debris clearance operations have also been ordered to ensure smooth water flow during the rains.

Control Rooms and Real-Time Communication

To strengthen response time, control rooms at the AEE level will be established, and WhatsApp groups will be created for seamless coordination among officials during emergencies.

Pothole Filling and Road Safety

The civic body has ordered immediate filling of potholes across roads to ensure public safety and smooth commuting, especially during rainy conditions.

Emergency Care Centres to Be Identified

Authorities have been directed to identify and prepare care centres that can be activated during emergencies, ensuring readiness for any unforeseen situations.

Flood Management and Resource Planning

A comprehensive mapping of equipment, manpower, and flood-response resources is underway to ensure efficient handling of rain-related challenges.

Crackdown on Unauthorised Flex Banners

Executive Engineers have been instructed to remove unauthorised flex banners immediately, reducing hazards during strong winds and rain.

Street Light Repairs on Priority

The Electrical Division has been directed to repair and replace faulty street lights, ensuring proper visibility and safety during night-time rainfall.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Chief Engineers Swayamprabha and Basavaraj Kabade, along with Superintendent Engineers and divisional-level officers.
