Bajrang Dal activists intercept Bolero near Kelageri Bridge, police register case over alleged illegal beef transport in Dharwad

Dharwad: In a significant development, around 8 tonnes of beef was seized in Dharwad district after a Bolero vehicle allegedly transporting the consignment illegally from Belagavi to Bengaluru was intercepted near Kelageri Bridge.

According to initial reports, members of Bajrang Dal acted on a tip-off and stopped the vehicle, suspecting illegal transportation. The activists later handed over the vehicle and the seized material to the local police for further investigation.

“The vehicle was intercepted based on credible information, and the matter has now been handed over to the police for legal action,” sources involved in the operation stated.

Details of the Interception
Sources claim that the consignment was allegedly prepared after the slaughter of more than 60 cow calves, raising serious concerns over illegal cattle slaughter and transport violations. However, officials are yet to officially confirm the exact origin and legality of the meat.

Several individuals, including Siddu Hiremath, Anudeep Kulkarni, Gurushantha, Nagaraj, Ganesh, Dhruva, Darshan, and Udaya, were actively involved in intercepting the vehicle.

Police Action Underway
A case has been registered at the Dharwad Suburban Police Station, and authorities have initiated further investigation to determine the source, destination, and legality of the seized beef consignment.

Officials indicated that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings, including possible violations of transport and animal protection laws.

Rising Vigilance and Legal Sensitivity
The incident highlights the heightened vigilance around cattle transport and beef-related cases in Karnataka, where such matters often attract legal scrutiny and public attention. Authorities are expected to examine documentation, permits, and compliance with existing regulations before proceeding further.
