Illegal mobile use inside Bengaluru prison sparks panic as inmates issue death threats, DGP orders probe into staff involvement

Bengaluru: In a shocking development, inmates at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison allegedly threatened jail staff with death while officials attempted to seize illegally used mobile phones, exposing serious security lapses inside one of Karnataka’s largest prisons.

The incident came to light after prison authorities intensified checks following reports of inmates shooting videos on mobile phones and circulating them on social media.

When staff moved to confiscate the devices, certain inmates allegedly issued chilling threats, warning officials that they would be “sent to the cremation ground” if they proceeded.
A case has been registered against inmates Rizwan Ali and Mohammed Sadiq for issuing life threats. Separate FIRs have been filed at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station.
21 Mobile Phones Recovered in 10 Days
In a major crackdown, jail authorities have recovered 21 mobile phones within just 10 days, raising serious concerns about internal security breaches.

Investigations revealed that the phones were ingeniously hidden inside drainage pipelines, packed in milk covers to avoid detection, indicating a well-organised smuggling network within the prison.
“The scale of mobile recovery and the method of concealment point towards a systemic failure and possible internal collusion,” sources said.
Jammer Failure Raises Serious Questions
Despite the presence of signal jammers inside the prison, inmates were reportedly able to access mobile networks, further deepening the concern.
The issue has drawn sharp criticism from Alok Kumar, who expressed strong dissatisfaction over the situation.
Probe Into Jail Staff Role Ordered
Suspecting possible involvement of prison staff, the DGP has ordered a comprehensive investigation into jailers and wardens.
Under the supervision of Anshukumar, several suspicious wardens are currently being interrogated to determine their role in the illegal activities.
Security Lapses Exposed Inside Prison
The incident has exposed serious security loopholes in the prison system, raising questions about surveillance, staff accountability, and enforcement of rules.

Authorities are now under pressure to tighten prison security, fix technical failures, and take strict action against those involved, both inmates and officials.
