Blaze erupts in crowded building in New Delhi’s Palam area; over 10 fire tenders rushed to spot amid thick smoke

New Delhi: A major fire broke out in a crowded residential-commercial building in the Palam area of southwest New Delhi on Wednesday morning, triggering panic in the locality. Authorities fear that five to six people may be trapped inside, as rescue efforts continue.

The fire reportedly started around 10 AM on the ground floor of the building located in Palam village and quickly spread to the upper floors within minutes.

Rescue Operations in Full Swing
Upon receiving the alert, more than 10 fire engines rushed to the scene. Firefighters are breaking windows and using ladders to rescue those trapped inside the building.

Dense Smoke Hampers Rescue Efforts
Heavy black smoke billowing from the structure has made it extremely difficult for rescue personnel to enter the building. Officials fear that those trapped inside may be unconscious due to suffocation.

The situation remains critical as firefighters continue efforts to bring the blaze under control and rescue those inside.

Possible Cause Identified
Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in an electrical panel, though an official confirmation is awaited.
Locals stated that the building is located in a narrow lane, which delayed the arrival of fire tenders. As a precautionary measure, residents from nearby buildings have been evacuated to safety.
Ongoing Emergency Response
Emergency teams are continuing operations, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
