Three warplanes spotted flying at low altitude trigger fear among residents amid global tensions, officials confirm it was a scheduled drill
Hubballi: A brief wave of panic gripped Hubballi city on Wednesday after three fighter jets were seen flying at low altitude, alarming residents who feared a possible security threat amid ongoing global tensions. However, authorities later confirmed that the activity was part of a routine training sortie, easing public concerns.
The incident occurred on the evening of March 25, when residents noticed three warplanes flying unusually low over the city skyline. Given the backdrop of conflicts in the Middle East, many locals were startled and anxious, leading to a temporary atmosphere of uncertainty.
“People were initially worried due to the sudden appearance of fighter jets, but there is no cause for concern,” officials clarified.
Authorities Issue Clarification
According to Hubballi Airport Director Rupesh Kumar, the aircraft had taken off from Goa Airport and was conducting a scheduled training exercise as part of standard aviation operations.
Routine Military Drill Explained
Officials emphasised that such training sorties are conducted periodically, typically once every two months, to ensure operational readiness. The aircraft were not engaged in any emergency or combat-related activity.
No Threat to Public Safety
Authorities reassured citizens that there was no security threat and urged the public not to panic during such routine exercises in the future.
Public Urged to Stay Calm
The clarification helped restore normalcy in Hubballi, with officials reiterating that training flights are a regular occurrence and essential for defence preparedness.
