Traffic police relaunch towing drive with strict penalties, CCTV monitoring and GBA support to curb parking chaos

Bengaluru: In a major move to tackle rising parking violations, the Bengaluru Traffic Police has announced the return of vehicle towing operations in Bengaluru after a gap of three years. The system, which was halted in 2022, is set to resume from March 25, bringing strict enforcement back to city roads.

Towing Back to Curb Parking Nuisance
Officials said the decision aims to control the growing issue of indiscriminate parking across the city, which has been causing traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. A total of 10 towing vehicles have been deployed, with two vehicles assigned per corporation zone.

Joint Operation with GBA
The towing drive will be carried out in coordination with the Greater Bengaluru Authority. While GBA personnel will handle the towing operations, the traffic police will be responsible for imposing fines and monitoring violations.

Fine and Towing Charges Explained
Motorists violating no-parking rules will face a ₹500 fine. In addition, towing charges will be applied based on vehicle type:

  1. Two-wheelers: ₹650 towing charge
  2. Four-wheelers: ₹1000 towing charge

This means violators may end up paying over ₹1,500 in total penalties, depending on the vehicle.

CCTV and Body Cameras Made Mandatory
Learning from past controversies and public complaints, authorities have made CCTV cameras in towing vehicles and body-worn cameras for staff mandatory to ensure transparency and prevent misuse.

The move comes after previous towing operations faced backlash due to alleged misconduct. Officials have assured that strict monitoring mechanisms will be in place this time.

Traffic Discipline in Focus
With Bengaluru witnessing a surge in vehicle numbers and parking issues, authorities believe the move will help restore traffic discipline and reduce congestion across key areas.

Motorists have been urged to follow parking rules strictly to avoid hefty fines and inconvenience.
