Commissioner Sri Pommala Sunil Kumar Calls for Massive Public Participation; Compost Santhe and Women’s Day Walkathon Announced

Bengaluru: In a major push towards urban sanitation and civic participation, the Bengaluru North City Corporation has launched a Mega Cleanliness Drive under Swachh Survekshan 2025–26. The campaign will be implemented across 44 wards from March 1 to March 6, 2026, to strengthen sanitation systems and enhance environmental awareness.

The initiative is being spearheaded under the leadership of Commissioner Sri Pommala Sunil Kumar, who has appealed to citizens to actively participate in large numbers to build a cleaner and greener Bengaluru.

44 Wards to Witness Intensive Sanitation Activities

According to the official release, the drive will focus on cleaning vacant sites, lake surroundings, stormwater drains, and footpaths. Authorities will also eliminate black spots, remove Garbage Vulnerable Points, clear accumulated leaf waste, and undertake beautification of public spaces.

The campaign will be carried out extensively across divisions including Byatarayanapura, Pulikeshinagar, Sarvagnanagar, Dasarahalli, Hebbal, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, and Yelahanka.

Cleanliness awareness will be promoted under key slogans such as “Respect Public Places,” “Stop Dumping – Start Caring,” “Clean Habits – Green Future,” and “Green City – Clean City.”

IEC Activities to Boost Public Engagement

To ensure broader participation, Information, Education, and Communication activities have been planned, including rangoli competitions, quiz programmes, painting competitions, and school-level awareness initiatives aimed at instilling responsible waste management habits among students and residents.

Compost Santhe at Richard Park

As part of the sustainability agenda, a “Compost Santhe” programme will be conducted on March 7, 2026, at Richard Park in the Pulikeshinagar Division. The event aims to promote composting and decentralised waste management practices among households and community groups.

International Women’s Day Walkathon at Yelahanka Lake

On March 8, 2026, a Walkathon will be organised around Yelahanka Lake to mark International Women’s Day. Citizens, students, and Resident Welfare Associations are expected to participate in large numbers, alongside plogging drives and lake and nala cleaning activities.

A dedicated Google registration link has been created to facilitate public participation and provide programme details. Citizens can register online and access complete information regarding ward-wise activities.

The Commissioner urged residents to come forward in large numbers and make the campaign a grand success in the spirit of Swachh Survekshan.
