Bengaluru Building Falls Raise Safety Concerns

Bengaluru has witnessed several incidents over the past decade involving people falling from balconies, terraces and high-rise buildings. Reported circumstances have included accidental falls, loss of balance and inadequate safety barriers.

In 2026, a 72-year-old man reportedly died after falling from the 18th floor of an apartment complex near Tank Bund Road while cleaning glass shards from his balcony.

Another incident reported in 2026 involved a man who died after falling from a balcony that reportedly lacked a proper railing. The incident raised concerns about building safety standards and protective barriers.

In 2023, a technology professional died after falling from the balcony of a friend's 33rd-floor apartment in Bengaluru. Discussions on Reddit referred to possible loss of balance while leaning over the balcony or attempting to dispose of cigarette ash; these circumstances were not established here as confirmed findings.

Another 2023 case involved a 28-year-old air hostess from Himachal Pradesh who died after falling from the fourth-floor balcony of an apartment in Koramangala. Initial reports considered the possibility of an accidental fall, but the case later became a homicide investigation following allegations by her family.

These incidents have brought attention to safety measures in high-rise buildings, including structural oversight and the need for secure railings, grills and protective barriers on balconies and terraces.
