The CBI has begun a fresh investigation into Disha Salian’s 2020 death after the Bombay High Court directed the agency to take over the case
The CBI has registered an FIR in the death of Disha Salian, Sushant Singh Rajput’s former manager, following a Bombay High Court order directing a fresh investigation into the 2020 case.
Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in connection with the death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, following an order of the Bombay High Court.
The FIR names several prominent individuals, including Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aditya Thackeray, among others. The CBI is now set to conduct a fresh investigation into the nearly six-year-old case.
On September 2, a bench comprising Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice Ranjitsinh Raja Bhosale of the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to investigate Salian’s death. The court also instructed the central agency to appoint an experienced and senior officer to conduct the investigation.
Disha Salian Death Case Dates Back To June 2020
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020, six days after Salian’s death. The proximity of the two deaths led to speculation about a possible connection between the cases.
Following the controversy surrounding Rajput’s death, the Maharashtra government ordered a CBI investigation into his case. The agency later filed a closure report, treating his death as suicide. In Salian’s case, Mumbai Police registered an accidental death report (ADR).
The Bombay High Court subsequently questioned the handling of Salian’s case and directed that the investigation be handed over to the CBI.
Bombay High Court Raises Questions Over Mumbai Police Probe
The court criticised the Mumbai Police for treating the matter as an accidental death for six years without registering an FIR. It also pointed to what it described as “glaring discrepancies” in the investigation.
Salian’s father had approached the Bombay High Court alleging that his daughter had been raped and murdered and sought a CBI investigation. He also sought registration of an FIR against Aditya Thackeray.
The allegations are subject to investigation and should not be treated as established findings unless proved through the legal process.
Names Mentioned In CBI FIR
According to the information provided, the CBI FIR names Uddhav Thackeray, Aditya Thackeray, Rohan Roy, Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi, Aditya Thackeray’s bodyguard, Rhea Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, Sachin Vaze, Parambir Singh, DCP Vishal Thakur, Anil Deshmukh, API Ashok Devdhe and PI Jagdev Kalapad, among others.
The allegations also concern officials associated with Malvani police station, doctors and staff linked to the post-mortem process, security guards at Regent Galaxy building and senior members of the SIT. The allegations include attempts to suppress the case and tampering with government records.
The CBI investigation will examine the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death and the allegations raised regarding the earlier handling of the case. The inclusion of a person’s name in an FIR does not by itself establish criminal wrongdoing.
