A 23-year-old woman died in an alleged murder case in Galagali village of Karnataka's Bagalkot district, where police have arrested her husband. Investigators are examining multiple angles, including allegations of an extramarital relationship, forensic evidence, and digital records, to determine the exact sequence of events and the cause of death.
Bagalkot: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in Karnataka's Bagalkot district, with police arresting her husband in connection with the case. The deceased has been identified as Bhagyashree Jigaluru, while the accused has been identified as her husband, Praveen Jigaluru. A case has been registered at Bilagi Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
According to the preliminary investigation, the couple had been experiencing frequent marital disputes for several months. Police suspect that Praveen believed his wife was involved in an extramarital relationship, and the recurring conflicts over this issue may have led to the fatal incident.
Marital Disputes Allegedly Triggered by Suspicion of an Extramarital Affair
Police said Bhagyashree and Praveen had been married for nearly six years. During the investigation, officers learned that Praveen had become aware about two years ago of allegations that his wife was in contact with another man. Since then, repeated disagreements and arguments had reportedly taken place between the couple.
As tensions escalated, Bhagyashree had left her matrimonial home nearly two months ago and was staying with her parents. According to investigators, Praveen later persuaded her to return, assuring her that they would lead a peaceful life together. However, she was found dead on the very day she returned home, making the case particularly serious.
What the Preliminary Investigation Revealed
According to police, preliminary findings suggest that the accused may have first assaulted his wife with a wooden object before allegedly hanging her inside the house. Investigators stated that only the husband and wife were present at the residence when the incident occurred.
After receiving information about the incident, Bilagi Police visited the scene, conducted an inspection, and arrested the accused. The victim's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings will be based on the forensic findings.
Police Recover Physical and Digital Evidence
Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal said injury marks consistent with assault by an iron rod were found on the victim's body. He stated that investigators are examining two possibilities, whether the woman died by suicide following alleged harassment or whether she was assaulted and later hanged to stage the incident.
"According to the preliminary investigation, there is substantial evidence suggesting the woman was involved in an extramarital relationship. Investigators have also found that she was in contact with a man from Mahalingpur. Obscene videos involving the two were reportedly recovered from the accused's mobile phone, and the accused is alleged to have shared those videos with some of his friends. Every aspect of the case is being thoroughly investigated," said Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal.
Police also recovered beer bottles from the scene, raising suspicion that the accused may have consumed alcohol before the incident. This angle is also being examined as part of the investigation.
Digital Evidence Under Forensic Examination
Investigators are placing significant importance on digital evidence in the case. According to police, several videos were recovered from the accused's mobile phone during the investigation. Authorities are now verifying the authenticity of the material, how it was circulated, and its relevance to the alleged crime.
The mobile devices and other digital records have been seized and are expected to undergo forensic analysis to establish a clearer sequence of events.
Investigation Continues in Bagalkot Wife Murder Case
Police said the investigation remains ongoing, with officials examining forensic reports, post-mortem findings, witness statements, and digital evidence before reaching any final conclusions. Authorities emphasised that the exact cause of death and the complete sequence of events will be established only after scientific examination and detailed investigation.
