Karnataka rain forecast indicates moderate to heavy rainfall across coastal, north interior, south interior and Bengaluru regions over the next two days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across several Karnataka districts until July 22. Coastal, north interior, south interior and Bengaluru are expected to receive moderate to heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30 - 40 kmph. Recent rainfall data shows Chikkamagaluru and Udupi among the highest rainfall recipients, while the state continues to face a significant seasonal rainfall deficit.
Bengaluru: Rainfall activity is expected to continue across several parts of Karnataka for the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru Centre. The weather department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in multiple districts across the coastal, north interior and south interior regions, along with gusty winds in several areas.
The latest Karnataka rain forecast indicates that coastal districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, are likely to receive moderate rainfall. Several districts in the north interior region are also expected to experience scattered rainfall accompanied by wind speeds of 30 - 40 kmph.
"Moderate to heavy rainfall with gusty winds is likely across several Karnataka districts over the next two days," the IMD Bengaluru Centre said in its latest forecast.
Karnataka Rain Forecast for Coastal and North Interior Districts
According to the IMD, scattered rainfall is likely in Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgiri districts. Wind speeds are expected to range between 30 and 40 kmph in several locations during the forecast period.
The coastal belt comprising Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada is expected to witness moderate rainfall, with weather conditions remaining favourable for continued showers through July 22.
Bengaluru Rain Forecast and South Interior Karnataka Weather
The IMD has also forecast moderate rainfall for Bengaluru City and Bengaluru Rural districts, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
Other south interior districts likely to receive rainfall include Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Ballari, Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Chamarajanagar.
Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on July 22, with scattered rainfall likely across coastal districts and several inland regions of the state.
Highest Rainfall Recorded in Karnataka
Rainfall recorded during the 24 hours ending on the evening of July 20 showed Chikkamagaluru district receiving the highest precipitation in the state.
Kammarady in Chikkamagaluru recorded 11 cm of rainfall, while Siddapur in Udupi district received 10 cm.

- Belthangady (Dakshina Kannada) – 7 cm
- Jugalbet (Uttara Kannada) – 7 cm
- Kembhavi (Yadgiri) – 7 cm
- Mangaluru Observatory – 7 cm
- Moodubidire (Dakshina Kannada) – 7 cm
- Sulya (Dakshina Kannada) – 7 cm
Kammarady in Chikkamagaluru recorded the highest rainfall in Karnataka with 11 cm during the 24 hours ending on July 20 evening.
Karnataka Rainfall Deficit Remains a Concern
Despite the forecast of continued rainfall, the state continues to report a significant seasonal rainfall shortfall.
According to the Karnataka government, 21 of the state's 31 districts have recorded severe rainfall deficiency, affecting agricultural activity and water resources.
Official data shows Karnataka received 116 mm of rainfall during June against the normal 199 mm, resulting in a 42 per cent rainfall deficit. The month was recorded as the fourth-driest June in the last 50 years, highlighting the extent of the seasonal rainfall shortage despite recent rainfall activity.
