Aam Aadmi Party alleges misuse of legal provisions against protesting farmers and urges the Karnataka government to withdraw the cases and hold talks with affected families
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticised the Karnataka government over the registration of an attempt to murder case and other charges against protesting farmers in Bidadi. The party has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the cases, alleging suppression of democratic protests and calling for direct dialogue with the affected farmers.
Bengaluru: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Karnataka, has strongly criticised the registration of serious criminal cases, including attempt to murder, against farmers protesting in Bidadi, describing the move as an attack on democratic rights and farmers' interests. The party has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the cases and urged the state government to initiate talks with the affected families.
The remarks were made by AAP Karnataka State President Mukhyamantri Chandru in a press statement issued on Tuesday.
Karnataka AAP Criticises Cases Filed Against Bidadi Farmers
According to Mukhyamantri Chandru, the farmers were peacefully protesting to protect their ancestral lands and livelihoods. He alleged that instead of addressing their concerns through dialogue, the government had chosen to initiate serious criminal proceedings against them.
"Registering serious charges, including attempt to murder, against farmers protesting to protect their ancestral properties reflects a repressive and anti-farmer approach," Mukhyamantri Chandru said in the statement.
He further stated that democratic protests should be addressed through discussion rather than criminal action.
Allegations Against the Karnataka Government
In the statement, the AAP leader alleged that the action had strengthened concerns regarding the handling of land-related disputes in the state. He claimed that poor and middle-class farmers were being subjected to pressure while fighting to safeguard their land.

Mukhyamantri Chandru also alleged that the use of multiple legal provisions against the protesting farmers was intended to discourage the movement and intimidate those participating in the agitation.
"The government should listen to the grievances of farmers instead of suppressing their voices through police action," the statement said.
These allegations represent the views expressed by the Aam Aadmi Party. The Karnataka government had not responded to the statement at the time of publication.
Karnataka AAP Seeks Withdrawal of Cases and Dialogue
The party has called upon the Karnataka government to immediately withdraw what it described as "false cases" registered against the protesting farmers.
AAP also urged the state government to hold direct discussions with the displaced farmers and address their demands through negotiations.
According to the statement, if the government fails to take corrective action, the Aam Aadmi Party will intensify its protests across Karnataka in support of the farmers.
Party Reaffirms Support for Farmers in Karnataka
Reiterating the party's stand, Mukhyamantri Chandru said the voices of protesting farmers could not be suppressed through legal action and asserted that AAP would continue to support the movement.
"The voice of farmers cannot be silenced through police force. The people of Karnataka stand with the farmers, and the Aam Aadmi Party will continue to support their struggle," he said.
The developments come amid ongoing protests related to land issues in Bidadi, with political parties continuing to voice their positions on the matter.
