Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned countries assisting the United States of a "harsh response" and said the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed while US military activity continues in the region. The developments coincide with reports of a US strike on Iran's Qeshm Island, a security incident in Jordan, and political reactions within Iran.
Tehran: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned countries supporting the United States that they could face a "harsh response" unless they change their conduct, as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate across the Gulf region.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the IRGC said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed as long as the United States continued what it described as threats and interference in maritime movements in the region.
The warning comes amid a series of military and political developments involving Iran, the United States and neighbouring countries.
IRGC Issues Warning Over Support for the United States
The IRGC said any country providing assistance to the United States could face consequences if its policies remain unchanged.
The statement also maintained that the Strait of Hormuz would stay closed while US military operations and regional activities continue.
"Countries assisting the United States will face a harsh response unless they change their conduct," the IRGC said in its statement.
Iran Claims Oil Tankers Turned Back Near Strait of Hormuz
According to the IRGC, two oil tankers attempted to leave through what it described as an unsafe route south of the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday night under the direction of US military aircraft.
The IRGC alleged that one of the vessels caught fire, forcing both tankers to turn back.
The organisation did not provide evidence to support the claim, and there was no immediate independent verification of the reported incident.
US Strike Reported on Iran's Qeshm Island
Officials from Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences said three people were killed and two others injured after a reported US strike hit a house on Qeshm Island on Thursday.
No additional operational details were immediately released regarding the reported strike, and US authorities had not publicly commented on the incident at the time of reporting.
Jordan Military Reports Intercepted Attack
Jordan's Armed Forces said they intercepted and thwarted an attempted attack on the country's territory on Thursday.
According to the Jordan News Agency, the military said no casualties were reported during the operation.
Officials stated that the armed forces remain prepared to respond to any threat targeting Jordan or the safety of its citizens.
"The armed forces are prepared to respond firmly to any threat against the Kingdom and its citizens," the military said.
Iranian Lawmaker Comments on Domestic Political Debate
Iranian Member of Parliament Ebrahim Nekou said a small extremist faction had attempted to influence public debate by intervening in sensitive national issues during the ongoing conflict.
According to Nekou, the group represents only a small section of public opinion despite its activity during critical developments.
He also said Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had not called for diplomacy or negotiations to be abandoned.
"Negotiations must proceed correctly, realistically and based on balance," Nekou said while explaining his interpretation of the Supreme Leader's position.
