Former Karnataka Minister and ex-Deputy Speaker C. Veeranna passed away at the age of 89 in Tumakuru after suffering from age-related ailments

Former Karnataka Minister and veteran Janata Party leader C. Veeranna died at his residence in Bukkapatna, Tumakuru district, at the age of 89. A former MLA from Koratagere and Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, he served in the Ramakrishna Hegde cabinet and later retired from active politics to focus on agriculture.


Tumakuru: Veteran politician, former Karnataka Minister and former Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly C. Veeranna passed away on Saturday at the age of 89 due to age-related ailments. He breathed his last at his residence in Bukkapatna village of Koratagere taluk in Tumakuru district, where he had been living after retiring from active politics.


Family members said Veeranna had been undergoing treatment for age-related health issues for the past few months and had recently returned home after hospitalisation.

C. Veeranna served as a minister in the Ramakrishna Hegde-led Karnataka government and later held the post of Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

C Veeranna's Political Career and Public Service

Born on April 23, 1940, Veeranna was elected as the MLA from the Koratagere Assembly constituency in 1983 and 1985 on a Janata Party ticket.


During the government led by former Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, he handled several portfolios, including Small Savings, Lottery, Prisons, Transport, Commerce and Industries. He also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.


Veeranna was credited with strengthening Karnataka's small savings programme, during which the state emerged as one of the country's leading contributors to small savings collections.


Retired from Politics to Focus on Agriculture

After stepping away from active politics, Veeranna returned to his native village of Bukkapatna, where he led a quiet life engaged in agricultural activities.


He remained respected across political circles for his long public service and contribution to Karnataka's political and administrative landscape.

After retiring from politics, Veeranna devoted his time to farming in his native village of Bukkapatna.

Public Homage and Final Rites

The mortal remains of the former minister have been kept at his farmhouse in Bukkapatna for the public to pay their last respects.


His last rites will be performed at 4 pm on Sunday at his farm in Bukkapatna village, Koratagere taluk.
