A woman waiting alone for a cab in Bengaluru's Ramamurthy Nagar was allegedly subjected to verbal sexual harassment by a man on a scooter. The survivor recorded the incident on her mobile phone and shared it on Instagram, prompting swift police action. The accused has since been arrested, and further investigation is underway.


Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly sexually harassing a young woman who was waiting alone by the roadside for a cab in the city's Ramamurthy Nagar area. The accused was identified as Vijayaraghav, a fruit vendor and resident of NRI Layout in Ramamurthy Nagar.


The incident gained widespread attention after the survivor recorded the accused's alleged behaviour on her mobile phone and shared the video on Instagram, tagging the official Bengaluru City Police account. The video quickly went viral, drawing widespread condemnation on social media.


Bengaluru Woman Records Alleged Sexual Harassment in Ramamurthy Nagar

According to police, the incident occurred when the 26-year-old woman was waiting for a cab along the roadside. During that time, the accused allegedly stopped his scooter near her and made sexually explicit and offensive remarks, including asking her an inappropriate "rate" question.

Instead of panicking, the woman immediately began recording the incident on her mobile phone. She also warned the man that she would file a police complaint.

Despite the warning, the accused allegedly continued using abusive and sexually offensive language. However, after noticing that both his face and the registration number of his scooter had been clearly captured on video, he fled the spot.


Viral Instagram Video Leads to Swift Police Action in Bengaluru

The survivor later uploaded the video on Instagram and expressed concern over women's safety in Bengaluru.

"Can women not even stand alone on the streets in Silicon City?" she wrote while tagging the official Bengaluru City Police social media account.

The post quickly gained traction across social media platforms, triggering strong public outrage and widespread demands for immediate action against the accused.


Bengaluru Police Identify Accused Through Vehicle Registration

Acting promptly, Ramamurthy Nagar Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the complaint and the evidence available in the viral video.


Investigators traced the accused using the scooter's registration number captured in the footage. Following a search operation, police arrested Vijayaraghav and took him into custody for questioning.


Officials said further investigation is underway to determine all aspects of the case and proceed with legal action in accordance with the law.
