Hassan: A truck carrying beer worth approximately Rs. 15 lakh overturned near Doddapura village in Hassan district after a tyre reportedly burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The mishap resulted in hundreds of beer bottles and cans being destroyed after they were scattered across the highway.
According to preliminary information, the truck was transporting around 1,100 beer bottles from Wood Picker Company, located in Hassan's Industrial Development Area, to Koppal when the accident occurred.
Tyre Burst Triggers Beer Truck Accident
Police said the truck's tyre burst while it was passing near Doddapura village, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle climbed onto the road divider before overturning.
The impact of the crash caused the consignment to spill across the roadway, with large quantities of beer bottles and cans breaking on impact.
"The truck overturned after a tyre burst, leaving beer bottles and cans strewn across the road," preliminary information indicated.
Beer Bottles and Cans Scattered Across Highway
The consignment included beer products from brands such as Legend, Royal, Power Cool, and Sunny Beaches. Bottles and cans were scattered over a large stretch of the road, with many breaking during the accident, resulting in an estimated loss of nearly ₹15 lakh.
The spill also created hazardous conditions for motorists travelling through the area.
Traffic Disrupted, Police Begin Investigation
The accident led to the closure of one side of the highway, disrupting vehicular movement for several hours as authorities worked to clear the debris.
Personnel from the Hassan Rural Police Station reached the spot, conducted an inspection, and initiated an investigation into the incident. Officials are assessing the circumstances that led to the tyre burst and subsequent crash.
