The IMD has predicted intensified monsoon activity across Karnataka, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning likely in several districts over the next three days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in monsoon rainfall across Karnataka over the next two to three days. Coastal districts including Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are likely to receive heavy rainfall, while Bengaluru and several southern interior districts are expected to witness moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Bengaluru: Monsoon activity is set to intensify across Karnataka over the next two to three days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across several parts of the state. The latest weather outlook indicates that coastal Karnataka, Bengaluru, and multiple districts in the southern interior region are likely to receive significant rainfall as monsoon conditions strengthen further.
According to the IMD, rainfall intensity is expected to increase across north interior Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, and coastal regions, bringing much-needed moisture but also raising the possibility of localized waterlogging and weather-related disruptions in some areas.
Karnataka Rain Forecast Signals Stronger Monsoon Activity
The weather department has predicted that the southwest monsoon will remain active across Karnataka, leading to enhanced rainfall activity in numerous districts.
Meteorologists expect thunderstorms accompanied by lightning to occur in various regions of the state. The forecast suggests that rainfall will become more widespread as monsoon currents strengthen over peninsular India.
The expected increase in rainfall comes after monsoon conditions advanced further across many parts of the country, creating favourable conditions for sustained precipitation in Karnataka.
"Monsoon rainfall is likely to intensify across Karnataka over the next two to three days, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in several districts."
Heavy Rain Likely in Coastal Karnataka Districts
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in districts such as Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, where monsoon activity is expected to remain particularly strong. These districts have already witnessed periodic showers in recent days, and rainfall intensity is likely to increase further.
Meanwhile, Uttara Kannada is expected to receive moderate rainfall, with weather conditions remaining favourable for continued precipitation throughout the day.
Residents in coastal regions have been advised to remain alert, especially in low-lying areas prone to temporary flooding during periods of intense rainfall.
Bengaluru and Southern Karnataka Districts Under Rain Watch
The IMD has predicted showers in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, and Tumakuru districts. These areas are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity.
Agricultural experts believe the rainfall could provide substantial benefits to standing crops and improve soil moisture levels ahead of the next cultivation cycle.
However, authorities may continue monitoring rainfall patterns to address any localised disruptions caused by intense downpours.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast Today
The state capital is expected to witness cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall throughout the day.
According to the weather department, Bengaluru has remained overcast since morning, with favourable conditions for rain developing across many parts of the city. The forecast indicates that showers could occur during both daytime and evening hours.
The maximum temperature in Bengaluru is expected to remain around 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover near 21 degrees Celsius.
Wind speeds are forecast to reach approximately 20 kilometres per hour, contributing to cooler weather conditions across the city.
"Cloudy skies, moderate temperatures, and rainfall activity are expected to dominate Bengaluru's weather throughout the day."
Thunderstorms and Lightning Warning Across Karnataka
Apart from rainfall, the IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and lightning in several districts.
Such weather conditions are commonly associated with active monsoon systems and can occasionally lead to disruptions in transportation and outdoor activities. Citizens have been advised to exercise caution during periods of intense thunderstorm activity and avoid unnecessary exposure to open areas during lightning events.
Emergency and disaster management authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation and are prepared to respond if conditions worsen in vulnerable regions.
Monsoon Rains Bring Relief but Demand Vigilance
The strengthening monsoon is expected to provide relief from recent dry conditions in several districts while supporting agricultural and water resource needs across the state.
At the same time, officials have urged residents to stay updated on weather advisories as rainfall intensity increases over the coming days.
With heavy rain predicted in coastal Karnataka and continued showers expected in Bengaluru and southern districts, the state is likely to experience one of its most active monsoon phases so far this season.
