Bengaluru: The southwest monsoon continues to strengthen across Karnataka, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for eight districts amid forecasts of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Weather officials have advised residents, farmers, and commuters to remain cautious as adverse weather conditions are expected to persist in several parts of the state over the coming days.
According to the latest forecast, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is likely in parts of North Interior and South Interior Karnataka. At the same time, Bengaluru and coastal districts are expected to receive moderate rainfall with intermittent thunderstorms.
The IMD has urged the public to follow safety advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense weather activity.

Yellow Alert Issued for Eight Karnataka Districts
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for four districts in North Interior Karnataka, including Gadag, Dharwad, Haveri, and Koppal. These districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph at isolated locations.
Similarly, a yellow alert has been declared for Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, and Chamarajanagar districts in South Interior Karnataka, where heavy showers, thunderstorms, and wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected.
Weather experts indicate that localised intense rainfall may lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and could affect transportation in some regions.
Coastal Karnataka Likely to Receive Moderate Rainfall
The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are expected to receive moderate rainfall over the next few days as monsoon activity remains active along the western coastline.
Strong winds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph are also likely to accompany rainfall in coastal areas, creating cooler weather conditions across the region.
Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to remain alert and monitor weather updates issued by local authorities.

Districts including Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir are likely to receive scattered showers with gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph.
The weather department has warned that lightning activity may occur in isolated areas, urging residents to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms.
Agricultural regions in these districts could benefit from the rainfall, though farmers have been advised to protect crops and livestock from strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast Predicts Evening Thunderstorms
Moderate rainfall is likely across Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts, with thunderstorms expected during the evening and nighttime hours.
In addition to Bengaluru, districts such as Ballari, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kodagu, Kolar, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara are also expected to receive moderate showers.
The rainfall is likely to bring temporary relief from rising temperatures while potentially causing traffic congestion and slower commutes in urban areas.
Residents of Bengaluru have been advised to plan travel accordingly and remain vigilant during periods of heavy rain and lightning.
IMD Advises Public and Farmers to Take Precautions
