Bidar: A tragic incident from Karnataka’s Bidar district has sparked concern after two teenage sisters died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Hyderabad. The girls reportedly fell seriously ill along with other family members shortly after consuming mangoes at their home. Authorities have launched an investigation, and the exact cause of the illness will be determined only after forensic and postmortem reports are received.
The deceased have been identified as Bhavani Vaijanath Maitre (17) and Sandhyarani Maitre (14), residents of Shembelli village in Aurad taluk of Bidar district. The heartbreaking incident has left the local community in shock, with relatives and villagers awaiting answers regarding the sudden illness that affected multiple members of the same family.
Family Falls Ill After Meal and Mango Consumption
According to preliminary information, the family had dinner together at home before consuming mangoes. Within a short period, several members of the household reportedly began experiencing severe health complications, including vomiting and diarrhoea.
The affected individuals included mother Indumati and her five daughters. As their condition worsened, family members rushed them to a private hospital in Hyderabad for emergency treatment.
Two Sisters Succumb During Treatment
Despite medical efforts, Bhavani and Sandhyarani could not be saved and passed away while undergoing treatment. Their deaths have raised serious concerns, prompting authorities to investigate whether food contamination, poisoning, infection, or another medical factor may have contributed to the tragedy.
Meanwhile, another sister, Vijayashree (19), continues to receive treatment and remains under medical observation. Hospital sources indicated that her condition is being closely monitored.
Postmortem Report Expected to Reveal Cause
Officials stated that the bodies of the two deceased sisters have been sent for postmortem examination. Investigators are waiting for laboratory and forensic findings before drawing any conclusions about the exact reason behind the illness and deaths.
“The actual cause can be confirmed only after postmortem and medical reports are received,” officials indicated during the preliminary inquiry.
Police Investigation Underway
A complaint has been registered at the Narayanaguda Police Station in Hyderabad. Authorities are collecting medical records and statements from family members as part of the ongoing investigation.
Sources said the incident reportedly occurred three days ago, but details emerged publicly after the deaths of the two sisters. Police and health officials are expected to examine all possible angles before releasing an official conclusion.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of identifying the source of sudden food-related illnesses quickly, especially when multiple family members are affected simultaneously.
