Bengaluru: A shocking case of alleged murder stemming from a relationship dispute has come to light in Bengaluru, where a 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend after she refused to marry him. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Mahalakshmi Layout Police Station, and the accused was arrested within hours of the crime.
The deceased, identified as Anjali, had reportedly been in a relationship with Rajiv for the past several years. However, after learning about Rajiv's criminal background, Anjali had begun distancing herself from him, a development that investigators believe triggered the fatal attack.
Bengaluru Girlfriend Murder Linked to Marriage Dispute
According to the preliminary police investigation, Rajiv allegedly contacted Anjali on Sunday night and persuaded her to meet him by inviting her to eat egg rice. Believing it to be a casual meeting, Anjali agreed and met him at around 9.30 pm.
Police said the two later reached a roadside stretch near a pipeline in the Mahalakshmi Layout area, where Rajiv allegedly began questioning Anjali about her decision to avoid him and whether she would agree to marry him.
The conversation soon turned into a heated argument after Anjali reportedly refused his marriage proposal.
"Investigators suspect the accused had planned the attack after repeatedly failing to convince the victim to continue the relationship and agree to marriage."

Police said Rajiv allegedly pulled out a knife he was carrying and stabbed Anjali in the neck during the altercation. Local residents immediately alerted emergency services, and the seriously injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Despite doctors' efforts, Anjali succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Following the murder, Mahalakshmi Layout Police launched a search operation and succeeded in apprehending the accused within a short time. A murder case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Anjali's grandmother.
Officials are continuing to collect evidence, record witness statements and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the killing.
Bengaluru Accused Had Criminal Background, Police Probe Previous Cases
Investigators revealed that Rajiv was allegedly involved in multiple criminal cases, including robbery and an attempt-to-murder case. According to police, Anjali's family had recently become aware of his criminal history and had advised her to end the relationship.
Sources said Anjali had subsequently begun avoiding Rajiv and had reduced all communication with him. Police believe this decision may have angered the accused, ultimately leading to the fatal attack.
"The accused allegedly lured the victim out under the pretext of having dinner before attacking her with a knife after an argument over marriage."
Authorities are also examining whether Rajiv had been stalking or repeatedly contacting Anjali after she ended the relationship.
Bengaluru Police Also Examine Victim's Past Relationship
As part of the investigation, police are verifying information suggesting that Anjali was previously acquainted with another young man identified as Chandan. Officials clarified that this angle is being examined only as part of the routine investigation and that no conclusions have been drawn at this stage.
Meanwhile, Anjali's body has been shifted to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police said the forensic report and other scientific evidence will play an important role in strengthening the prosecution's case.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether the murder was fully premeditated and whether any additional evidence supports the charges against the accused.
