Jalandhar: Panic gripped Jalandhar on Tuesday night after a scooter exploded near Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier headquarters at the busy BSF Chowk, one of the city’s most sensitive security zones.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred at around 8 PM, when a parked scooter suddenly exploded with a loud blast-like sound, sending shockwaves through the crowded area. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a thunderous sound moments before flames engulfed the vehicle, creating panic among commuters and nearby residents. CCTV footage circulating on news platforms reportedly shows a man running for safety seconds after the blast.
Police officials said the explosion damaged the scooter and scattered debris across the road, with some nearby infrastructure also reportedly affected. Fortunately, no fatalities have been confirmed so far, though some reports indicate one individual may have suffered minor injuries. Authorities are verifying all details.
High Security Alert Near BSF Premises
Given the proximity to the BSF headquarters, police, bomb disposal squads, forensic experts, and fire service personnel immediately rushed to the spot. The entire area was cordoned off and brought under tight security.
Senior officials confirmed that the exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said preliminary findings suggest a scooter caught fire, but investigators are examining all possibilities before confirming the source of the blast.
