Two railway engineers die after earth beneath under-construction underpass caves in near Dara Ghati on NH-52 in Rajasthan’s Kota district
Kota: A tragic construction site accident in Rajasthan’s Kota district claimed the lives of two railway engineers after a portion of earth beneath an under-construction underpass suddenly caved in while they were inspecting the site near Dara Ghati on National Highway 52.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 8 pm on Thursday under the jurisdiction of Modak police station. The collapse trapped the engineers during an inspection visit at the railway underpass construction site, leading to their deaths.
The shocking incident has raised serious concerns over construction safety standards and on-site risk management at major infrastructure projects.
Railway Engineers Killed During Construction Site Inspection
Authorities identified the deceased as Prabhat Singh, a 30-year-old Junior Engineer on probation from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, and Sanjay Kumar Jha, a 47-year-old Senior Section Engineer from Dhamaura village in Bihar’s West Champaran district.
Officials said both engineers were present at the site to inspect the progress of the underpass construction work when the earth beneath the structure unexpectedly collapsed.
Rescue teams and local authorities rushed to the scene immediately after the accident, but both engineers reportedly succumbed to their injuries.
Underpass Collapse Near Dara Ghati Triggers Safety Concerns
The fatal incident occurred at an under-construction railway underpass near Dara Ghati along NH-52, a crucial highway route in Rajasthan.
Preliminary reports suggest that the soil beneath the structure gave way suddenly, causing a section of the underpass area to collapse while the engineers were standing near the inspection zone.
Authorities are now expected to investigate whether negligence, weak soil stability, technical flaws, or safety protocol violations contributed to the deadly accident.
The incident has also intensified concerns regarding worker safety and structural monitoring at large-scale infrastructure projects across India.
Investigation Into Kota Construction Accident Underway
Police and railway authorities have initiated further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
Officials are likely to examine engineering reports, construction quality standards, and site safety measures to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The deaths of the two engineers have triggered grief among railway staff and infrastructure workers, with many expressing condolences to the families of the victims.
The tragedy once again highlights the risks faced by engineers and workers involved in high-pressure infrastructure and railway construction projects nationwide.
