Chamarajanagar: In a horrifying case that has shocked locals, a man allegedly attempted to sacrifice his 80-year-old mother in a ritual for hidden treasure in Sagade village of Chamarajanagar district. The accused, identified as Madashhetti, has been arrested by police, preventing a potential tragedy.

According to police sources, the accused believed that performing a ritual sacrifice on the full moon (Pournami) would help him discover hidden wealth. Acting on this belief, he allegedly prepared for the act at his residence by digging a four-foot-deep pit and arranging ritual items such as lemons, turmeric, vermilion, and a ceremonial pot.

Elderly Mother Targeted
The intended victim, identified as Madamma Shetti, is reportedly visually and hearing impaired, making the incident even more disturbing. The accused had allegedly planned to carry out the act inside his own house.
Suspicious of the unusual activities, nearby residents alerted the police. Acting swiftly, officers rushed to the spot. While the alleged ritual practitioner reportedly fled the scene, the accused was taken into custody, and the situation was brought under control before any harm could occur.
Case Registered, Investigation Underway
A case has been registered at the Chamarajanagar Rural Police Station, and further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the incident, including whether others were involved or influenced the act.
