Lakkinakoppa Incident Raises Serious Concerns Over Child Safety During Summer Holidays; Police Launch Probe
Shivamogga: A 9-year-old girl lost her life after a rope got entangled around her neck while playing on a swing inside a room in Lakkinakoppa village of Shivamogga district. The tragedy has triggered concern over child safety during summer vacations, especially when children are left unsupervised.
The deceased, identified as Pranamya, a resident of Vidyanagar in Shivamogga city, had gone to her aunt’s house a week ago to spend her holidays. The incident reportedly occurred on April 20 but came to light later.
Incident Occurred While Playing Alone in a Closed Room
According to initial reports, Pranamya was playing with a rope-based swing or punching setup inside a room. After being teased by other children, she is said to have locked herself inside and continued playing alone.
During this time, the rope allegedly tightened around her neck, leading to asphyxiation. By the time family members broke open the door, the child had already succumbed.
“The child appears to have suffered breathing distress after the rope got stuck around her neck while playing,” officials said, citing preliminary findings.
Police Register Case, Probe Underway
A case has been registered at the Tunganagar Police Station, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and rule out any other factors.
Authorities are also examining whether safety lapses or a lack of supervision contributed to the incident.
Growing Concern Over Child Safety During Vacations
The tragedy has left the family devastated, with locals calling for greater awareness on child safety at home, particularly during holidays when children spend more time playing indoors or unsupervised.
Experts stress that objects like ropes, swings, and exercise equipment can pose hidden risks, especially for younger children.
