Hazaribagh horror exposes deadly superstition, a minor killed in a ritual sacrifice, mother, tantrik and aide arrested, High Court takes cognisance

Hazaribagh: In a spine-chilling and deeply disturbing case, a mother allegedly sacrificed her own 13-year-old daughter under the influence of black magic, after being told, “Just bring a virgin girl, then you’ll see…”, in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district.

The horrifying incident took place in Kusumbha village, where police investigations uncovered a planned human sacrifice ritual aimed at curing the woman’s ailing son. The accused mother, Reshmi Devi (35), along with a self-styled tantrik Shanti Devi (55) and an accomplice, has been arrested.

Blind Faith Leads to Brutal Killing

According to police, Reshmi Devi was struggling with her son’s physical and mental health issues and turned to occult practices for a solution. She reportedly came in contact with the tantrik, who convinced her that sacrificing a virgin girl would cure the illness completely.

Driven by blind belief, the mother allegedly plotted the murder of her own daughter, leading to a crime that has shocked the entire nation.

“The act was premeditated and rooted in superstition. The accused believed it would heal her son,” officials revealed.

Murder on Festival Night

The incident occurred on March 24, coinciding with the eighth day of Navratri, when the village was engaged in celebrations linked to Ram Navami.

Police investigations revealed that the girl was strangled at the tantrik’s house, assaulted during the ritual, and her body was later buried in a garden to hide evidence. Another accused, Bhim Ram, allegedly assisted in the crime.

Cover-Up Attempt Exposed

In a shocking attempt to mislead authorities, the accused initially tried to portray the incident as rape and kidnapping. The mother even filed a false complaint claiming her daughter was missing.

However, post-mortem and forensic reports exposed the truth, leading to the arrest of all three accused. Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan confirmed that they confessed during interrogation.

High Court Steps In

Taking serious note of the incident, the Jharkhand High Court has taken suo motu cognizance and issued notices to the state administration and police.

The case has triggered massive outrage, with the Bharatiya Janata Party calling for a 12-hour bandh in Hazaribagh in protest.

Superstition’s Deadly Grip

Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing and strict legal action will follow based on evidence.
