Hubballi: Fear has gripped Karnataka’s commercial city, Hubballi, after a brutal chain snatching incident in which a woman was allegedly dragged on the road before her gold chain was stolen by a bike-borne thief in broad daylight.
The disturbing incident took place in Sadashiv Nagar, where a lone woman walking on the road became the target of a suspected chain snatcher. The entire crime was captured on CCTV and has now gone viral on social media, sparking anger and safety concerns.
Woman Targeted on Isolated Road
According to reports, the incident occurred two days ago when the woman was walking alone through a road in Sadashiv Nagar. A man on a motorcycle reportedly followed her, watched her movements and chose the moment to strike.
After noticing she was alone, the accused allegedly rushed toward her and grabbed the gold chain around her neck.
Dragged on Road Despite Resistance
When the woman tried to resist and protect herself, the accused allegedly pulled her violently, dragging her on the road in a shocking display of force.
Even after she fell to the ground, the suspect reportedly continued tugging until he forcibly snatched the chain.
Witnesses said the man then quickly mounted his motorcycle and escaped from the spot.
The frightening visuals have left residents shaken and triggered concern over women’s safety in the city.
CCTV Video Goes Viral
The CCTV footage of the attack is being widely circulated online, drawing strong reactions from the public. Many residents have raised concerns that criminals are now targeting lonely roads and less crowded areas, carrying out crimes openly during the daytime.
No Complaint Yet, Police Act on Their Own
Despite the seriousness of the incident, sources said the victim has not yet filed a formal police complaint. However, police reportedly took suo motu notice after the CCTV footage surfaced online.
Officers are now trying to identify and trace the woman, while simultaneously launching a search for the accused using the CCTV evidence.
Police Hunt Underway
Investigators are examining footage from surrounding cameras to track the bike route, identify the suspect and determine whether he is linked to other chain-snatching cases in Hubballi.
