Lokayukta officials detained two Nelamangala RTO probationary inspectors and a private individual after allegations of bribery demands to clear overloaded trucks on NICE Road.

Nelamangala: In a major anti-corruption operation, Lokayukta police trapped two officials attached to the Nelamangala RTO office and detained a private intermediary over allegations of demanding bribes to allow vehicles to pass after inspection on NICE Road.

The accused have been identified as probationary inspectors Dinesh Kumar and Kiran, along with a private individual named Ramesh. Officials said the action followed a complaint alleging repeated bribe demands for clearing overloaded trucks.

Rs. 30,000 Bribe Demand Alleged

According to sources, a complaint was lodged claiming that officials demanded Rs. 30,000 to permit an overloaded truck to continue operations without obstruction. Based on the allegation, Lokayukta authorities initiated surveillance and verification before conducting the trap operation.

The complainant was reportedly identified as Prashant Dattatreya, said to be from Maharashtra.

Investigators also alleged that part of the illegal money was collected through Google Pay, with previous transactions of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000 reportedly traced during the probe.

During the latest operation, private intermediary Ramesh was allegedly caught while accepting Rs. 300, after which officers moved in and secured the suspects for questioning.

Officials are now examining whether similar payments were collected in earlier cases involving commercial vehicles.

Lokayukta Team Led Operation

The action was carried out under the supervision of Lokayukta SP Vamshikrishna, who led the anti-corruption operation in Bengaluru Rural district jurisdiction.

Searches, document checks, and digital transaction verification are expected to continue as part of the investigation.
