Storm disrupts power supply across city, over 12,000 complaints received; authorities urge strict public safety amid continuing pre-monsoon rains
Bengaluru: Heavy winds and intense rainfall that lashed Bengaluru on Wednesday evening have caused widespread damage to power infrastructure, severely impacting electricity supply across multiple areas under BESCOM jurisdiction.
According to official estimates, 461 electric poles, 77 transformers, and nearly 1.8 km of power lines were damaged, with total losses pegged at Rs 87.32 lakh.
BESCOM officials stated that restoration work is underway in full swing, with priority given to resuming power supply in the worst-affected areas.
“The damaged infrastructure has been repaired in several areas and power supply restored on priority,” BESCOM said in an official release.
Out of these, 11,859 complaints have already been resolved, indicating an accelerated response from field teams working round the clock.
Consumers have been urged to report outages through helpline numbers or WhatsApp, along with photos and location details for faster resolution.

During a review meeting, the minister instructed BESCOM teams to take preventive steps to minimise outages and respond swiftly to emergencies.
“BESCOM officials must promptly resolve complaints and take precautionary measures before the monsoon to ensure an uninterrupted power supply,” said K. J. George.
