A Bengaluru businessman has filed a police complaint alleging a social media influencer extorted cash, jewellery, and gifts before demanding Rs 1.5 crore using private photos and videos
Bengaluru: A sensational blackmail case involving a social media influencer and a Bengaluru businessman has surfaced in the city, with allegations of extortion, private video threats, and a demand of Rs 1.5 crore.
According to the complaint filed at Jayanagar Police Station, the accused influencer, identified as Sadhana Shetty, allegedly used private photos and videos to threaten businessman Karthik, owner of HK Permanent Make Up Clinic, after the two reportedly became close during a business promotion arrangement. Police have begun a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
Friendship Began During a Business Promotion
As per the complaint, Karthik approached the influencer for promotional activities related to his clinic. During the course of professional interaction, the two became friends, and the relationship allegedly developed further over time.
The complainant has alleged that during their meetings together, private photos and videos were recorded.
These materials were later allegedly used to threaten and pressure him for money.
Cash, Jewellery and Expensive Gifts Allegedly Taken
The complaint claims that the accused initially demanded money in smaller amounts before escalating the pressure.
Karthik alleged that he was forced to provide Rs 5 lakh through online transfer, Rs 5 lakh in cash, a gold ring worth Rs 30,000, a gold chain worth Rs 70,000, iPhone worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
Even after these alleged payments and gifts, the complainant claims an additional Rs 1.5 crore was later demanded.
“The pressure allegedly continued despite earlier payments,” sources said, citing the complaint.
Family Dispute Triggered After Private Content Shared
The businessman further alleged that when he refused to meet the greater financial demand, the accused sent private videos and images to his wife through WhatsApp.
This reportedly led to serious conflict within the family and affected his personal life.
Unable to resolve the matter privately, Karthik then approached the police and lodged an official complaint.
Police Issue Notice, Inquiry Underway
Based on the complaint, Jayanagar Police have reportedly issued a notice to Sadhana Shetty and conducted initial questioning.
During the inquiry, she is said to have denied all allegations.
Police sources indicated that the investigation is continuing, and she has been asked to appear again for further questioning.
Case Highlights Growing Risks of Digital Misuse
The case has drawn attention to concerns around the misuse of private content, online influence networks, and personal relationships turning into alleged extortion disputes.
Officials are expected to verify digital evidence, transaction records, communication logs, and statements from both sides before deciding the next legal steps.
As the probe continues, no charges have been proven in court, and the allegations remain under investigation.
