Sudden cloudburst-like rainfall leaves markets waterlogged, traders suffer heavy losses, and normal life is severely disrupted across Belagavi and Haveri districts
Belagavi: In a dramatic turn of weather, torrential overnight rains lashed Belagavi and Haveri districts, throwing normal life into disarray and causing severe flooding in markets, roads, and commercial areas. The sudden downpour, described by locals as unexpected and intense, resulted in widespread waterlogging and significant losses for traders and residents alike.
Heavy rainfall in Belagavi led to complete inundation of the Kadebazar market area, one of the busiest commercial hubs in the city. The sudden surge of rainwater forced roadside vegetable vendors to abandon their goods and flee, unable to protect their produce from the flooding.
Shops located along Port Road were also hit hard as drain water entered commercial establishments, leaving shopkeepers struggling to salvage their goods. The situation worsened as major roads turned into flowing streams, with several two-wheelers partially submerged, highlighting the intensity of the downpour. Residents described the situation as chaotic, with urban infrastructure failing to cope with the sudden rainfall.
“The rain came without warning. Within minutes, everything was flooded. We couldn’t even save our goods,” a local vendor said.
Haveri Hit by Stormy Rains, Agricultural Losses Reported
Similarly, Haveri district witnessed heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, causing widespread disruption. In Karjagi village of Haveri taluk, the impact was particularly severe as vegetables, including brinjal and tomato, were washed away from the weekly market, resulting in heavy losses for farmers and traders.
Waterlogging on roads made movement difficult, forcing vehicle riders and vendors to struggle to protect their belongings. The intense rainfall not only damaged goods but also disrupted daily activities, affecting both rural and urban populations.
Sudden Rain Disrupts Daily Life Across Districts
The unseasonal rainfall has brought daily life to a standstill in both districts. From submerged roads to damaged goods and disrupted trade, the impact has been widespread. Authorities are yet to fully assess the damage, but initial reports indicate significant economic loss for small-scale vendors and farmers.
