Madikeri Rural Police arrest five accused in two separate narcotics operations in Kodagu district, seize 245 grams of ganja and 28.50 grams of MDMA
Madikeri: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking and use in Kodagu district, the Madikeri Rural Police have detained five individuals in connection with the illegal sale and consumption of ganja and MDMA. The arrests were made during two separate operations carried out in rural areas of the district, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of banned substances and vehicles involved in the alleged crimes.
Police confirmed that cases have been registered at the Madikeri Rural Police Station and further investigation is underway.
Ganja Seized in Kiggalu Village Raid
Acting on credible information about ganja being sold in Kiggalu village, Madikeri Rural Police conducted a targeted raid that resulted in the arrest of two individuals. The accused have been identified as Karthik, 27, a resident of Kiggalu village, and H.G. Gupta of Balamuri, also known as Harshavardhan, 26.
During the operation, police seized 245 grams of cannabis (ganja) from their possession. Officials said the accused were allegedly involved in the sale and consumption of the contraband substance in the rural belt of Kodagu.
MDMA Network Busted in Kadagadalu
In a separate operation in the Kadagadalu area, police arrested three individuals for allegedly selling and consuming MDMA, a synthetic psychotropic substance.
The arrested have been identified as Sajeer, 39, Shahrukh, 28, and Niyas, 39, all residents of Ibniwalwadi village. From their possession, the police seized 28.50 grams of MDMA, along with one auto-rickshaw and a car believed to have been used for transportation and distribution of the narcotics.
Police sources said the coordinated action was part of intensified surveillance to curb the spread of synthetic drugs in Kodagu district.
Accused Produced Before Court
Cases under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) have been registered at the Madikeri Rural Police Station in connection with both incidents. The accused were produced before the jurisdictional court, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
